This course can help content teachers contextualize the research on literacy practice in order to apply it in small ways within their existing curriculum. What You'll Learn: - Basics of the Connections between Word Recognition and Comprehension - Setting the Goal for Reading - Identifying and Using Text Structure - Background Knowledge Activation - Building 3 Tiers of Vocabulary - Sentence Level Comprehension - Comprehension Processes What You'll Get: - Student-Facing Videos: You'll get a sense of the types of videos that we offer to allow you to identify where you might want to start based on your curriculum. - Research-Based Explanations: Gain insights into the overarching research and insights as to how it can be applied within content area courses. - Planning: Learn about ways that you can tailor activities for students, including ways to use AI to make learning targeted for the needs of your students. How the Course is Designed: - Each of the 7 segments of the course is designed to be completed in approximately 45 minutes. - We encourage engaging in the course alongside a content team, grade level team, or content partner to foster discussion, comprehension, and contextual application. - The course identifies places to stop and share, but we also encourage teams to make the resources work for them.
